Stainless Steel Kitchen Faucets
July 4th, 2009 by Chris

Gone are the days when faucets are supposed to be hidden and the one thing that you would rather not look at in a kitchen. Now, kitchen faucets got promoted to star status, thanks to the companies who managed to make a simple water dispenser look good, and do good things as well (think retractable spray heads).

Stainless steel kitchen faucets are the prime example of the new generation of fixtures that have style without compromising substance. They are corrosion and rust resistant. And some of those brass, bronze, copper and even chrome faucets you see in the market have a stainless steel base.

These faucets are also scratch resistant and can withstand stuff that would have caused dents to a less sturdy model. Depending on the model and the manufacturer, they can be dual function faucets. Some models may also have pull out spray heads, spray head switches, leak prevention disk valves, soap dispensers and the works.

A faucet with a stainless steel finish has a contemporary look, making it an ideal fixture in a modern house. Stainless steal is also very durable – a kitchen faucet has to be; after all, it is always used for cleaning and food preparation, and is always exposed to water. They are also easy to clean, which makes this faucet an ideal choice for the busy person. There have been studies that showed how bacteria and allergens are less likely to stay on stainless steel surfaces.

With the exception of plastic, stainless steel faucets are the cheapest ones in the market. They are relatively inexpensive, compared to chrome and brushed nickel. There can still be thousand-dollar faucets of this type in the market though, because prices would depend on the design, the manufacturer, the features, and the vendor website. If you are planning to buy one online, it would really help if you know your way around comparison shopping websites so you'll know where to get the best deal.

Danze has a contemporary line that has a classic twist (it could be the other way around). They have a wide range of stainless steel faucets, from the regular top-mount to one that has dispensers, spray heads and the works. They also have inexpensive options in their product line.

Another manufacturer that is known for topnotch stainless steel kitchen faucets is Grohe. They are known to make smudge-resistant and therefore easier-to-clean models. Heck, some of their models look always clean that if you are a busy person, you'd love its being low-maintenance. Their faucets can be very expensive though, with prices reaching $900. However, there are Grohe faucets that are sold for less, especially if you know how to look, where to look or simply lucky.

You'd have to consider the design scheme or color of your kitchen though. Stainless steel kitchen faucets would look well with countertops that are in gray and black tones. However, it would look out of place in a rustic or colonial-themed house. However, if you have other stainless steel fixtures, they wouldn't look like a total misfit. What you can do is look for a stainless steel faucet that has an appropriate finish for a warmer tone – for example, brass, bronze or copper.

If you are on a budget, you cannot go wrong with stainless steel. Style and substance can be found in most home fixtures – even in faucets; especially in faucets.
