I don’t know if you have installed a kitchen sink water filter in your house, or if you even know the reason why you should have one, but I do know that if I want to live a healthy life I need to drink water. And that water needs to be pure without any contaminates.
In order to be sure we drink healthy water it is wise to choose a home water purification unit. These come in many types, including whole house water purifying systems, a kitchen sink water filter, refrigerator filters, and many more.
Drinking plenty of water is the best way to rid our body of toxins. A minimum of eight 8-ounce glasses day is a must, and I go by the formula that requires me a bit more than that. I take my weight and divide by two to get the amount of water I should drink for optimum health.
Now don’t be thinking I’m going to tell me my weight, because I’m not - like most women that is a closely guarded secret for me, but an example of what I just wrote is if you weigh 150 pounds you would need to drink 75 ounces of healthy water a day.
There’s that healthy word again, which is what I am all about. I figure there is enough in this world I can’t control, even concerning my own health, so I take control of the things I can. And one of those things is to drink healthy uncontaminated water.
Don’t be fooled by that nice clear liquid coming out of your kitchen faucet. If you don’t have a sink water filter attached, or another means of purifying that water, it has dangerous chemicals in it that will harm your health and may even cause you premature death from diseases like cancer or heart failure to name a couple.
You don’t have to take my word for it either. Here is just one of many quotes you’ll find if you do your research about contaminates in our water. This is from the Ralph Nader Research Group. “U. S. drinking water contains more than 2,100 toxic chemicals that can cause cancer. ”
Drinking water without a sink water filter will not kill you dead the minute you drink it, but the dangerous effects of the toxins in your body will harm you over the long haul. And since the reason to be sure we drink water everyday is to rid our body of toxins it doesn’t make sense to add more chemicals to our body in the water we drink.
Go online and research water purifying systems and find the right one for you. Be sure to invest in one that purifies the water from “all” contaminates not just a few. The manufacture you buy from should provide you with information concerning what their filters remove.
A rule of thumb is to buy a system with multiple filters, including a granular activated carbon filter, sub micron filter, multi block filter and an ion exchange for the best results for contaminate free water. You can install a new faucet for your kitchen or bathroom without calling a plumber. It's not a difficult as you may think. With the right know how, the right tools and belief in yourself, you can complete the job and save hundreds of dollars.
Faucets for the kitchen and bath come from different manufacturers in many different styles. Fortunately, most faucets can be installed the same way. A mounting plate usually holds the faucet in place. The only tool that you will need for this job that is somewhat out of the ordinary is called a basin wrench. It is used to loosen the faucet from underneath where access is difficult because it is between the basin and the wall.
Before you can install a new faucet, you will have to remove the old faucet. So make sure to first turn off the water supply. You can do this by reaching underneath the sink and turning off the valves mounted on the wall, there should be two, one for the hot and one for the cold water.
However, if you look under the sink and do not have cut off valves, go no further, you will have to call a plumber to install them before the faucet can be replaced. You can allow a plumber to install the cut-off valves, but you can still save a few hundred dollars by still installing the faucet on your own.
Now go under the sink to disconnect the water supply lines. You will see two tubes that are connected to the valves that you've just turned off. Turn the nuts connected to the valves counterclockwise. Also have a pail ready because once these connections are opened you can open the faucet to remove any remaining water.
Your faucet will have either one or two nuts holding it in place, depending on how old your faucet is, the style and manufacturer. Use the basin wrench to undo these counterclockwise. The faucet should now lift right off.
However, sometimes these nuts can be a real problem to loosen. Often they have been there so long that built-up corrosion has made it impossible to loosen them. If this is the situation with your faucet the only way that you are going to get it lose is by breaking these nuts. The easiest way that I find to do this is by using a drill and drilling through them.
Finally, the new faucet can be installed. Remove it from the box and check the directions to make certain that all the required parts are present. Follow any assembly instructions in the directions given by the manufacturer. This step sounds a lot harder to do than it actually is.
Once you have the faucet together, place plumber;s putty on the underside of it before positioning it over the holes in the sink to make a watertight seal. Place the mounting bracket over the valves from the underneath side and tighten with the nuts provided. Installation of the water supply lines is the reverse procedure of when you uninstalled them.
And you thought this job was going to be difficult.
